Special Projects
Projects of a special nature - carried on outside the project areas of A2N-Uganda on request by development partners. These may be one-time interventions or pilots to usher in larger projects of a collaborative nature.
Provision of Market Development Services and Management of Community in AAIU-Kumi and Katakwi DistrictsIn November 2006, Africa 2000 Network-Uganda was contracted by Action Aid International-Uganda (AAIU) to provide marketing development services to beneficiaries of its model Project to end hunger in Kumi and Katakwi program areas.
The proposed intervention is aimed at facilitating the representatives of farmer organizations and community food reserves management committees access skills and knowledge in the management of selected agro-enterprises and also specificially for the management of their community food resreves for enhanced food security and income generation with particular focus to the most vulnerable category of people i.e. women, their children and families living in displacement camps.
Project Objectives
- Representatives of farmer organisations and community food reserves management committees involved in the implementation of the AAIU models project trained and exposed to recommend practices of food resreves management.
- A training manual on best practices in management of community food reserves and establishement of agro-enterprises produced.
- Farmer owned agro-enterprises in the sub-counties of Kidongole and Kapujan supported and strengthened in aspects of collective action, market access and institutional management capability
- Technical support provided to management committeed of the established food stores through regular field visits to enable them manage and maintain both the community food reserves and the selected agro enterprises.
