Pan Africa Secretariat Lauches New Website. A new website has been developed with support from UNDP by Pan Africa 2000 Network Secretariat (A2N) to enable its members in 13 countries (Burundi, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Mauritania, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe) to market and share activities internationally. HORIZONT3000 HANDS OVER THE FRUIT DRYING FACTORY TO AFRICA 2000 NETWORK - UGANDA
On the 9th of May 2008, Horizont3000 officially opened and handed over the fruit drying factory to Africa 2000 Network – Uganda and the partners Small Holder Farmers at a function presided over by the Minister of Trade; who was represented by State minister, Hon. Gagawala Wambuzi. Over 200 people including Local farmers, representatives of Donor Organizations, District Local Government Officials and MPs, attended the function
In her remarks, the Horizont3000 Regional Director, Kathryn Hawighorst observed that establishing the fruit drying factory was in line with their objective of promoting community empowerment for sustainable livelihoods and income generation. Further more, it was also in line with their aim of “Integrating rural development through sustainable use of natural resources”.
The main objective of establishing the fruit drying factory was to establish a solar-drying facility in Iganga District for drying various fruits (pineapple, mango, apple, banana, papaya & jackfruit) sourced from Iganga and other surrounding districts. Kilimo Trust of GATSBY Foundation in UK through CIAT supports INSPIRE Phase Three for three years to scale out the soil fertility improvement technologies and organizing farmers into secondary level organizations for collective action towards poverty eradication in five districts in Eastern Uganda.
FARM-Africa Kenya- "Maendeleo Agricultural Technology Fund (MATF)" supports A2N-Uganda to undertake an agricultural technology transfer project that would contribute to exploitation of viable technologies by farmers and thus raising household productivity without undermining long-term productivity of agricultural resources. The project is entitled “Promotion of NERICA upland rice production and marketing in Namutumba District”. It is a three year project (1st September, 2007 to 31st August, 2010).
